Stuff Happens…Panic? or Pull out the Lemon Press?
It’s all over the airwaves and internet. Doom and gloom. People are losing jobs – losing their homes. Businesses are failing – and NOT being bailed out. You may know some or many. You may be among them.
Or maybe you or someone you know seems on top of the world only to be told they have a life threatening medical condition?
Or what about that perfect couple that suddenly divorces on less than amicable grounds?
Or the loss of a loved one - person or pet?
Or those “natural” disasters by Mother Nature – the wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods?
And don’t forget accidents – car crashes, house fires, slip-and-falls?
The point is that “Stuff” Happens! How we react to it dictates if we are going to fail, or survive and thrive.
Sometimes my clients seem frustrated with me when I do not allow them to stay stuck in the “gunk.” They tell me, “I know there are others worse off than I am, but that’s them and this is me. This is happening to me right now.”
My response: "Yes, you are absolutely right! So what are YOU going to do about it?”
Stuff happens to ALL of us. If we give up and give into it – we lose. So why not try re-framing and refocusing. Make a little lemonade!
We all can go onto that bigger and better job – create our own company – find a more compatible romantic partner – change our habits to fight a medical challenge -find the good in a situation and WORK IT!
I am happy to report that many of my friends and associates have gone on to do just this and have succeeded. New jobs have been won – new homes have been secured – new romances have flourished…and my friend with the medical condition has had to slow down and stop his workaholic ways for now, which has given him time to become closer to friends and family while working on recovery.
Good does come to those who look for it!! Stuff Happens..So why not make it GREAT!
Cheers to YOUR SuCCess!

When It Rains, Look for the Rainbow!

When It Rains, Look for the Rainbow!
One of the weird and wonderful things about living in Florida is the sudden rain showers. I’ll never forget driving along I-95 and seeing a dark cloud ahead and a sheet of gray stretching down to the highway in front of me. I had never experienced rain that could come down in torrent walls of water like blocks or compartments – only to end abruptly as I drove out the other side.
Sitting in one of my favorite coffee shops watching activity through the huge picture window can be fascinating. Watching liquid diamonds rolling off the black awning of the shop across the street; the drops glistening in the westerly sunlight, is a vision that has always stayed with me..

Change Your Attitude...Assume You Can DO!

Years ago, I was hired to accomplish a nearly impossible leasing job on an apartment community about out in the middle of nowhere. I came from a relatively new but successful background in property management with a pretty cocky attitude. I just knew I could do it.... the truth is, I was so naive, I did not realize I could fail. I just assumed (there's that word) that I make it happen with the team that was already there. We would all be heroes and get a bonus.
What really surprised me is what happened after I gave my rah-rah pep talk to my new team. I was powerful and confident and laid down the law. Later that week, the whole staff quit. WOW! A moment of panic tried to surface, but my best supporter told me that this walk-out could be a good thing and now I could start with a fresh team that would have a good attitude. He also reminded me that everything is all in the attitude. You CAN do it.
The story goes that I did hire a great team and I gave each team member a little pin that said, "Attitude is Everything!" We all wore our pins and worked together and got the job done.
So when you start to doubt, change your attitude - reframe the possibilities and you, too, will come out victorious. Assume (yes, use that word!)you can and you can. Just don't let anyone convince you differently!!
